Course Details

The CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is a nationally recognised qualification designed for individuals seeking to develop the knowledge, skills, and capabilities required to plan, manage, and supervise residential and commercial construction projects.

To successfully complete this qualification, you must complete 24 core units and 3 elective units.

  • CPCCBC5018 – Apply structural principles to the construction of buildings up to three storeys
  • BSBOPS504 – Manage business risk
  • BSBWHS513 – Lead WHS risk management

  • CPCCBC4003 – Select, prepare and administer a construction contract

  • CPCCBC4004 – Identify and produce estimated costs for building and construction projects

Licensing Outcomes


The CPC50220 Diploma is recognised by various state and territory licensing bodies in Australia as meeting the educational requirements for becoming a licensed builder. However, licensing is administered at a state level and may include additional criteria such as relevant work experience, technical interviews, or business knowledge assessments.

Common licensing outcomes include (but are not limited to):

Domestic Builder (Unlimited) – Victoria

Builder – Open or Medium Rise – Queensland

Building Practitioner (Registered Building Contractor or Building Supervisor) – Western Australia

General Building Work Licence – New South Wales and other jurisdictions

It is the student’s responsibility to check specific licensing requirements with the relevant State or Territory Building Authority, such as the QBCC (Queensland), NSW Fair Trading, VBA (Victoria), or WA Building Commission.
