And all Individuals or businesses must be licensed as building contractors, including subcontractors if they run a business that carries out or organises building work:

  • for others
  • to sell or let land or buildings.

Please note: Sole traders normally apply for a contractor's licence and building work supervisor registration at the same time as both are required to contract work.

Course Details

Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become a licensed contractor for a variety of building work, including additions, alterations, and residential building construction.

Expand your expertise to meet the National Construction Code Class 1 & 10 standards, and even gain the ability to construct and install transportable buildings.

Apply for your trade contractors licence with our Consumer Business Services (CBS) approved course

To successfully complete this course, you must complete six (6) nationally accredited units of competency:

BSBESB402 – Establish legal and risk management requirements of new business ventures

BSBESB401 – Research and develop business plans

CPCCBC4007 – Plan building or construction work

CPCCBC4004 – Identify and produce estimated costs for building and construction projects

CPCCBC4003 – Select, prepare, and administer a construction contract

CPCCBC4024 – Resolve business disputes

Upon completing all or some of these units, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units you have successfully completed.

What This Licence Allows You To Do

A Building Work Contractor’s Licence allows you to:

Legally contract with clients to carry out building work in South Australia.

Operate as a sole trader, partnership, or company offering building services.

Employ or subcontract other licensed builders, tradespeople, and apprentices.

Take on residential, commercial, or industrial building projects, depending on the conditions or classes listed on your licence.
